SANDEF Donated Hospital Beds and Bedding to the Mental Health Department at the State Hospital in Osogbo, Osun State

On February 21, 2025, the Sage and Enamel Foundation (SANDEF) donated hospital beds and bedding to the Mental Health Department at the State Hospital in Osogbo, Osun State, to enhance healthcare delivery. Dr. Fikayo Benson emphasized the organization’s goal of becoming Africa’s leading mental health foundation, focusing on individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. SANDEF’s three-phase approach includes subsidizing hospital bills, adopting patients for comprehensive care, and rehabilitating mentally ill individuals from the streets.

During the donation, SANDEF provided ten beds, mattresses, pillows, and bedsheets, which Dr. Benson noted would allow the hospital to admit more patients, advancing their rehabilitation efforts. He urged the government to prioritize mental health, highlighting that everyone faces some mental health challenges.

Dr. Dare Rachael Folasade, Chief Consultant Psychiatrist at the hospital, expressed gratitude for SANDEF’s ongoing support, noting that the donation would greatly enhance patient comfort and reduce relapse rates. She discussed the complex factors contributing to mental illness, including social and economic influences, and highlighted the rising cases linked to substance use and increased awareness of mental health services.

The event concluded with calls for improved mental health policies, increased funding, and greater societal awareness to address the mental health crisis in Osun State and Nigeria.
